Unknown Assailants Gun Down Traditional Elder in Luuq, Gedo Region

GOOBJOOG NEWS | LUUQ: Unknown gunmen Monday gunned down a prominent traditional elder in Luuq town, Gedo region.

The killing of the elder, identified as Aden Isak Yarow has heightened tensions in the region, which has been plagued by renewed clan-based conflicts in recent months.

Local elders have condemned the assassination saying the killing undermines the fragile peace efforts which is being pushed by elders, local authorities and the federal government in the region.

The elders called on Jubbaland State authorities to act swiftly and arrest those responsible for the killing, stressing the need for swift justice to prevent further violence.

The assassination of Yarow, a well-respected figure in Gedo, threatens to unravel recent efforts aimed at resolving the region’s ongoing clan conflicts.

Jubaland state officials have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, though pressure is mounting for immediate action to prevent further destabilization of the region.
