UNMAS Training Enhances Somali Forces’ Capability to Clear Explosives
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army’s capability to detect and clear Improvised Explosive Devices has been enhanced following a crucial training conducted by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) to 14 teams of Somali Security Forces.
The training equipped the national forces with necessary skills to safely identify and neutralize explosive threats hence enhancing the overall security and safety of both security agencies and civilians across the country.
This capacity-building measure is critical as Somalia moves towards greater self-reliance in maintaining its security and stability.
“This support is essential for the effective transition of security responsibilities from ATMIS to our national forces,” an official government statement notes.
UNMAS’s involvement underscores the international community’s commitment to supporting Somalia in its fight against terrorism and improving public safety by ensuring that the national forces are adequately prepared to face the challenges ahead as ATMIS forces continue drawing down its forces from Somalia.
