UPDATE: Somalia confirms 36 new COVID 19 cases

Somalia confirms 36 new COVID 19 cases after 47 people were tested on Friday, brings the total cases in the country to 116 patients following the previous 5 death including Hirshabelle state minister for justice, Khalif Mumin Tohow.

Since February 1st COVID-19 case reported in Somalia, the situation of coronavirus has been growing faster leading the government to suspend international, national flight as well as public gatherings to hold up in the cause of war against coronavirus.

On 19th April 2020, Mogadishu mayor claimed COVID-19 cases and death in Somalia is higher than the reported number by the ministry of health.

The government of Somalia on Tuesday 19 march 2020 announced $5 million budget to support the fight against coronavirus infection following $7 million aid package by the U.S. government.

On 7th April 2020, Somalia has received 100,000 USD as a financial contribution from IGAD to fight against COVID 19 infection. A senior liaison officer for the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development Office in Mogadishu, Jamal Ahmed handed over the check to Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohamed Ali-Nur Haji.

On 25th March 2020, African Development Bank has pardon Somalia’s debt following government effort to improve the financial management system of the country to gain financial stability and self-sufficient.
