GOOBJOOG/MOGADISHU: U.S. Africa Command has issued a statement confirming the use of airstrikes against Al-Shabaab militants after they attacked partner forces in a remote location near Libikus, Somalia on July 17, 2022.

The airstrike by the U.S. Africa Command Forces, the second in 2022 after the Trump administration withdrew its troops from Somalia, killed two members of the group. An initial assessment by the Command said that no civilians were injured or killed given the remote nature of where the engagement occurred.

“U.S. forces are authorized to conduct strikes in defense of designated partner forces,” the Command said.

The revelation by the U.S. Africa Command comes a day after State Media reported that three members of Al-Shabaab were killed and another captured alive by U.S. elite soldiers, Danadab in Libikus, Kismayo.
