US confirms airstrike against Al-Shabaab in Kismayo

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU:  U.S. Africa Command has announced that in coordination with the Somali government had conducted an airstrike against Al-Shabaab fighters after they attacked partner forces in a remote location near Berhani, westwards of Kismayo on 3rd June 2022.

According to the Command, five members of the group were killed in the operation while no civilian casualties were reported. 

The US reiterated its commitment together with the Federal Government of Somalia to  eradicate violent extremist organizations such as Al-Shabaab to prevent the deaths of innocent civilians.

Friday’s airstrike comes a few weeks after the Biden Administration announced that it would redeploy US troops back to Somalia.
