GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The US Embassy in Somalia issued a brief statement Sunday lauding the decision by the leaders of the federal and regional governments to hold meetings aimed at discussing the situation in the country.

The United States said that the meetings would be crucial in defining roles and responsibilities within the DFS and state governments, which when applied consistently, would promote stability, security, and prosperity in the country.

The United States added that the meeting between the federal and regional governments’ heads is “another achievement in the revival of Somalia”.

The National Consultative Council meeting, which kicked off on Sunday, is scheduled to enter its second and final day today ahead of President Hassan Sheikh’s trip to Nairobi for the inauguration of the country’s fifth head of state.

Matters tackled so far include security and the deteriorating drought situation in the country, according to a statement by the office of the Somali Presidency.
