USAID Holds Portfolio Review, Highlights Milestones Achieved in Various Sectors in Somalia
GOOBOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development together with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Monday co-hosted its first government portfolio review, which highlighted the various achievements and future steps in developing various sectors.
During the meeting, USAID highlighted key achievements made over the last year with the $92 million of its development assistance funding going to building schools, educating needy children, assisting pastoralists and fishing communities and providing infrastructure improvement in recently liberated areas.
USAID at the same time confirmed its commitment and collaboration to advance the joint development goals in the country confirming its continued partnership with the federal government in promoting resilience and securing a thriving Somalia.
National planning ministry deputy minister Mohamed Abdulqadir Ali while speaking during the meeting stated that the meeting was convened to review projects that the ministry undertook during the previous year in partnership with USAID.
He added that the review revealed a satisfactory result adding that USAID is one of the largest funding agencies which has pumped millions of dollars to various development projects across the country.
“The projects carried out by the agency in the country, which focuses on education, economic development, fishing, and animal development, will be properly assessed and reviewed every year,” he added.
USAID has also donated a further 2.7 million dollars to assist in developing the health sector especially in remote areas of the country.
Sheri-Nouane Duncan-Jones, one of the officials of the agency said USAID will continue its support for the Somali people and expressed satisfaction for the various projects undertaken in the previous year.
