Veteran Journalist Abdinassir Ahmed Bashir Assumes Role as Government Spokesperson
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Office of the Prime Minister on Sunday oversaw a formal handover of responsibilities to Abdinassir Ahmed Bashir, the newly named Director of the Information Department and Government Spokesperson, in a move aimed at strengthening government communications.
The ceremony, chaired by Permanent Secretary Kamal Dahir Gutale, brought together senior departmental directors and staff at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Abdinassir, a veteran journalist widely known in Somali media circles, takes over from a predecessor who recently completed his term as government spokesperson. His appointment comes at a time when the administration is seeking to improve information flow, sharpen strategic messaging, and streamline communication between government institutions.
Permanent Secretary Kamal urged the new director to lead the department with professionalism and to equip the government with timely, accurate and coordinated public communication. He encouraged the staff to support the transition and maintain a strong work ethic as the department adjusts to new leadership.
The spokesperson’s office plays a central role in shaping how the government explains policy decisions, responds to national developments, and communicates with both domestic and international audiences, responsibilities that have taken on greater importance amid Somalia’s ongoing reform and stabilisation agenda.
