GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has begun issuing voter cards in Hodan district ahead of the local government elections scheduled in the Banaadir region on December 25. Hodan is one of the districts within Banaadir, which includes the capital Mogadishu.

Mohamed Amiin Hassan, Chairperson of the Sub-Committee for National Election Operations, said the process is now officially underway and that all registered voters in Hodan can collect their cards.

“I call on the public and all Somali citizens to come forward and collect their voter cards so they can participate in the upcoming elections. Today, we officially launched the distribution of voter cards in Hodan district,” he said.

Among the first to receive his card was Abdikarim Ali, a person with special needs, who encouraged others to take part.

“People, come out and get your voter cards. We are ready to serve you here in Hodan district,” he said.

The commission has already launched similar card distribution in seven other districts across Banaadir. With voter registration now moving into its final stages, residents of the capital are expected to cast their ballots on December 25 in the Banaadir Regional Council elections.
