Voter Registration Opens in Wadajir and Dharkinley Districts in Mogadishu

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Voter registration kicked off in Wadajir and Dharkinley districts in Banaadir region Saturday as the electoral body escalates the exercise ahead of the June local council elections.

A spot check in the two districts showed people taking the cues from early morning as they waited for the registration centres to be opened.

The exercise has already been concluded in at least four districts out of all the 18 districts in Banaadir region which encompasses the capital, Mogadishu.

District council elections in Banaadir region will take place from late June as the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission prepares to roll out the exercise countrywide.

This will be the first time the country is holding direct elections in 54 years.
