Wajir town streetlights improve security
Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has said the 150 solar streetlights erected across the town have improved security.
Abdullahi said the county put up the streetlights in crime hotspot areas for grenade and gun attacks.
Speaking on the phone, the governor said no incidents have been reported since the lights were put up. “We have cleared all structures along the roads to improve security and pave way for ongoing road constructions,” Abdullahi said.
Residents have welcomed the move and urged the county government to erect more streetlights in other areas.
“Our shops now remain open almost until mid night. Previously, once it got dark, the streets used to get deserted,” said Grace Nzioka, who sells chips on Soko Mjinga Road.
Bar attendant Sophie Mwende said the project has improved residents’ confidence in the county government’s development plan.
“Residents were attacked every time the main power went off, but that never happens with the streetlights,” she said.
