War on Al-Shabaab, ISIS and Constitutional Review Key in President’s Address as He Opens Parliament Today

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will today open the sixth session of the Federal Parliament in Mogadishu.
During the session, the President is expected to brief the two chambers of the Federal Parliament of the ongoing war efforts against Al-Shabaab in the central regions and ISIS in Puntland.
Puntland Security Forces with the support of U.S drone operations, have killed several ISIS fighters, most of whom are foreigners, since the operation started in November last year.
The Somali National Army and the allied Maawisley militia have also been conducting ground operations in central regions, the most recent being in Hiiraan.
Notable also in the President’s speech will be a call on the lawmakers to spearhead the constitutional review process. Parliament reviewed and voted for the first four chapters during the fifth session last year.
The President will also brief parliament on his administration’s preparations for elections next year following the passage of three election-related last last December.
