We are tired of attacks, say Muslim clerics in Mandera

Storyline:National News

Mandera Muslim clerics expressed their frustration over increased attacks in the region saying they are fed up with the situation.
The clerics promised the government their unwavering support in the fight against Al-Shabab adding that they are ready to work together.
They admitted that the community has been silent about the atrocities committed by the insurgents making it seem as if the community is “okay” with the crime.
“We must come out and condemn these attacks as strongly as possible and give information to the authorities, ” One cleric who sought anonymity told The Star.
The clerics said they will come up with lectures for deradicalization of the youth.
The Clerics however faulted Majority leader Aden Duale saying that he mislead President Uhuru Kenyatta about closing down Hawalas money transfer and also freezing the account of a Muslim Shiekh popularly known as Shiekh Umal who publicly gave lectures condemning al shabaab and it’s affiliates.
The clerics said that they do not have information on all the terror activities in Mandera County and appealed to the government to conduct investigation without collectively punishing the Muslim community.
They argued that terrorists are individuals and groups but not a community hence all Somalis should not be branded as terrorists.
The clerics prayed for the Nation, the families of the victims and for a peaceful Kenya.
