GOOBJOOG NEWS | BEIJING: A group of 20 young Somali diplomats has concluded a diplomatic exchange program in China, as part of a broader initiative to strengthen ties and promote people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries.

According to officials, the delegation, drawn from Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, engaged in a series of lectures, workshops, and cultural visits designed to enhance their understanding of China’s development model, governance structures, and historical legacy.

The program exposed participants to both ancient Chinese traditions and the country’s rapid modernization. Stops included historical landmarks, government institutions, and advanced industrial zones, offering the diplomats a first-hand look at China’s socio-economic transformation.

“This program has expanded our perspective on global diplomacy and development approaches,” said one participant, speaking on condition of anonymity. “It’s also deepened our appreciation for Somalia–China relations.”

The exchange is part of an ongoing partnership aimed at bolstering cooperation in diplomacy, trade, education, and cultural understanding. Both governments reaffirmed their commitment to mutual respect and collaboration, with a particular focus on youth engagement and capacity building.

Officials said the program reflects a shared vision of future cooperation rooted in historical friendship and evolving strategic interests. China has played an increasing role in Somalia’s infrastructure, education, and humanitarian sectors over recent years.

The initiative comes amid a broader push by both countries to expand their diplomatic footprints and invest in the next generation of Foreign Service professionals.
