Seven MPs elected in Barawe despite mortar shell attacks

GOOBJOOG NEWS/BARAWE: Delegates from South West state elected the first seven MPs in Barawe today marking a first for elections outside state capitals.

Elections happened amid mortar shells attacks on neighbourhoods near the election centre killing one person and injuring around three others.

Salim Alihow Ibrow retained his seat, HOP#165, after he received a total of 70 votes while his fellow contestant, Adan Osman Hassan got 15 votes.

The second seat, HOP#161, previously held by Sayid Ali Abdulkadir Maalim was clinched by Yusuf Adan Mohamed who got 80 votes while his rival contender, Abdullahi Hussein Farah, received 7 votes.

The third seat, HOP#044, previously held by Safia Hassan Nur, was won by Maryan Mohamed Ali after she was voted for by 73 delegates while her rival, Fadumo Hassan Omar got 10 votes.

HOP#016, previously held by Amin Sheikh Osman, was won by Hussein Ali Haji from the Upper House, who received 81 votes while his fellow contestant, Ismail Hussein Ahmed, received 10 votes.

Abdullahi Omar Abshir clinched the fifth seat HOP#152, after he received 83 votes while his rival, Ahmed Hassan Gedi, received 16 votes.

The sixth seat, HOP153, left vacant by the late Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail, was won by Farhiya Mohamed Abdi with 88 votes while his rival Anisa Mohamed Hassan received 12 votes.

Abdullahi Hussein Ali retained the seventh seat, HOP151 after he received 78 votes, while his rival Mahad Ali Ahmed, received 17 votes.
