Hundreds of families continue to move away from their homes in areas along Shabelle and Jubba rivers as floods inundate homes and farms.

In Gedo region, residents of Elwak district told Goobjoog News the rains have been pounding the area for days forcing families to move to higher ground. “The flooding has affected hundreds of families and they are now moving to other places for safety,” Elwak district deputy commissioner Sahal Maalim Adan said.

Adan added the areas affected by floods were now experiencing food shortage as floods sweep away farms and make roads impassable. He called for emergency response to avert further suffering.

In Hiiran region, disabled people have been adversely affected by the floods as they try to move to safer grounds. Goobjoog News correspondent in the region says families have now reached Ceeljaalle location in search for humanitarian support.

Residents have called for priority support to disabled people.

Meanwhile government delegations appointed last week to oversee the response are today travelling to Jubba and Beletweyne regions to bolster relief efforts. The 22 member team headed by Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guled is working with other humanitarian actors already on the ground.
