Adado residents queue to elect councillors in ‘historic’ poll

GOOBJOOG NEWS|ADADO: Residents of Adado District in Galmudug State are today casting their vote in historic District Council Elections to elect new representatives.
According to the State Interior Ministry, voters will today elect 12 councillors while the elections of the remaining 11 will be conducted at a later date. The District Council has 23 councillors.
The election today is a first in many years. Councillors were previously appointed by the state administration.


Adado now becomes the second District Council to elect local government representatives in Galmudug State. Galkayo was the first to elect councilors in October 2020.


The election is seen as a major leap towards democratising governance at the lower levels of governance.
