AMISOM condemns killing of UN contractor in Beletweyne
AMISOM has condemned the killing of the UN contractor attached to the anti mine agency, UNMAS in Beletweyne Sunday.
In a statement to the media, AMISOM said the killing of Mahdi Hussein Mahow was an ‘indication of the remaining pockets of anti-peace elements that the nation and its partners must deal with as we forge ahead towards a stable and peaceful Somalia.’
Mahow was allegedly killed Saturday by security guards attached to the area governor. Security minister Abdirizak Omar told the media Sunday investigations were underway noting that one of the security guards had been arrested.
UN special envoy Nicholas Kay Sunday condemned the killing calling on the government o investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book.
“I condemn in the strongest terms this senseless attack on a UN contractor in Beletweyne yesterday,” said SRSG Kay. “I have urged the Federal Government of Somalia to launch an immediate and rigorous investigation into this incident and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice,” added Kay.
