Army man handed 4 year jail term for desertion in Beletweyne

A military court in Beletweyne has sentenced an army officer to four years behind bar for deserting service.

The court established Abukar Yusuf Ibrahim left his station contrary to military rules. The court also heard that Ibrahim was involved in a scuffle with members of the public in a public service vehicle. The prosecution told the court members of the public confiscated Ibrahim’s weapon during the scuffle and handed him to military station in Beletweyne.

In a different case in the same court, four people were jailed for three years for robbing members of the public along roads in Beletweyne. Adan Abdullahi Hassan and Yusuf Hussein Ibrahim were each handed three years for the offense.
