GOOBJOOG NEWS | MERCA: At least 10 Al-Shabaab militants including Somali nationals and foreign operatives have been killed in an airstrike targeting an Al-Shabaab stronghold in Lower Shabelle region.

According to sources, the airstrike hit the militant’s base near Sablaale, in Haawaay area which was believed to be a hideout for senior Al-Shabaab members.

Reports further indicated that among those killed in the airstrike are; Mohamed Mohamud Saalah Abuu Najiib, Hussein Mohamed Qaasim Abuu Faadil, Mohamed Badhiir Abuu Yahya, Abuu Rashiid (a Moroccan national), Abuu Basiira (a Yemeni national) and Kamaal Mohamed Elmi, identified as the commanding leader overseeing all the operatives.

The group is believed to have been planning planning attacks targeting Mogadishu but intelligence agencies foiled their plans prompting the precision strike.

The militants had also been involved in fanning inter-clan conflicts across Somalia by mobilizing and arming factions engaged in violent clashes in various regions of the country.

The airstrike comes after a similar operation near the Kuunyo Barrow district, where a senior Al-Shabaab leader responsible for operations in multiple regions was killed.
