GOOBJOOG NEWS | KAMPALA: At least 25 people have been killed and eight others injured in an attack at a school in Western Uganda.

Police say the attack was carried out by a group known as the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) – a Ugandan group which is based in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

“So far, 25 bodies have been recovered from the school and transferred to Bwera Hospital. A dormitory at the school was burnt and a food store looted during the attack,” national police spokesperson Fred Enanga said in a statement early Saturday.

A number of students were still unaccounted for, with dozens feared to have been abducted as Uganda’s security pursue the militants who have fled towards Virunga National Park in the DRC.

The attack on the school, located less than two kilometres  from Uganda’s border with the DRC, is the first such attack on a Ugandan school for many years.

Militias including the ADF also use the vast expanse, which borders Uganda and Rwanda, as a hideout.
