At least 3 dead, 8 injured in Lido Beach explosion- Police Spokesperson

GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU/ A terrorist attack that took place at precisely 8.40 PM, on Friday at Pescatore Sea Food Hotel, a restaurant recently opened on Lido Beach in Mogadishu has left at least three people dead and eight others injured.

According to Somali Police spokesperson Abdifatah Adan, a suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest blew himself up at the Pescatore Sea Food Restaurant, then followed by gunfire some minutes before 9.00 PM.

Abditaftah said among those killed in the night explosion is the Chief security officer for the police, chief Abukar Arab Bashir, while those injured included the commander of Abdiaziz district police station and his bodyguards.

Somali Police Force Commander Abdi Hassan Hijar and a number of newly elected members of parliament were having Iftar in one of the restaurants near the site of the explosion.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Al-Shabaab often pride themselves in staging such attacks aimed at government officials, security forces and civilians in order to assert their control.
