AU Chief Arrives in Mogadishu in Maiden Visit Amid Ongoing War on Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Newly elected African Commission chairman Mohamed Yusuf arrived in Mogadishu Sunday in his maiden visit to the Horn of Africa since taking office in February.
Yusuf was received at Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu and was received by senior government officials.
The new AU chief was expected to meet with president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and later visit the AU mission headquarters in Mogadishu.
Yusuf’s visit to the country comes amid an ongoing war against Al-Shabaab in central regions and recent reorganisation of the African Union Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
Egypt, a new entrant in the mission is expected to send troops soon to Somalia as part of an agreement between Mogadishu and Cairo.
