Cabinet Approves Key Judicial Bill
In a meeting convened by the cabinet and chaired by minister of justice Hon. Abdullahi Ahmed Jama Aka Ilkajir, the executive has voted in favor of Judicial Service Bill which is one of main bills necessary for federalization of Somalia.
The bill, first of its kind in Somalia, is meant to govern the judicial system of the country from regional states to the federal level. It discusses about the hierarchy of the judges in different levels, the set up of regional courts and the federal courts including the Appeal Court and the High Court.
The bill is also meant to accommodate regional states to have representation in the federal justice system.
The cabinet would send the bill to the parliament where it’s subjected for scrutiny by MPs before it would be voted and signed by the president, then published in the government gazette in order to be legally binding document.
The bill comes up at a time when the Judicial Service Commission is in the parliament for approval, this is the highest judicial authority in Somalia.
