GOOBJOOG NEWS|CAIRO: Egypt has helped to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group, which has been fighting in the Gaza Strip for the last three days, using heavy weapons. The ceasefire began at 11:30 pm local time (2030 GMT).

An Egyptian intelligence official who declined to be named told the AP news agency that the two sides have reached an agreement on the ceasefire, which will end the worst war in the Gaza Strip in a year.

Gaza’s health ministry said at least 31 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes, including six children, while Israel said it was not responsible for at least nine of the deaths.

The current war between the two sides began after Israel arrested last week a senior official of the Islamic Jihad group, as well as the killing of a 17-year-old Palestinian.
