COVID-19 cases in Somalia rise to 164 as 21 more test positive
More than 70% of those tested for COVID-19 on Sunday tested positive for the disease bringing the number of confirmed cases in Somalia to 164.
The Ministry of Health announced Sunday evening out of 29 tested for the pandemic, 21 tested positive projecting a consistent trend of over 70% positive case rate in the last one week.
On Saturday, 19 people out of 25 tested for COVID-19 were confirmed positive adding to a similar instance on Friday when 36 out of 47 tested returned positive results.
According to the Ministry of Health, 21 of those who tested positive are male while the remaining eight are female. One person recovered. Somalia has since registered seven deaths since the disease was discovered in the country on March 16.
The number of cases has gone up drastically in the last two weeks with a spike seen from the second week of April. The country has recorded an average of 20 cases daily in the last one week.
