Danab squad kill 20 Shabaab militants, recover 4 villages in Lower Shabelle
The Special Forces squad, Danab killed 20 Al-Shabaab militants and wrested control of four villages in Lower Shabelle region in a deadly offensive barely three days after the militants claimed over 80 lives in a truck bombing in the outskirts of Mogadishu.
The 16th brigade division of Danab conducted the offensive Tuesday in Lower Shabelle region as the country ushered in the new year.
The head of the US-trained forces Osman Abdi Malik told journalists his troops inflicted heavy casualties on the militants and pushed them out the villages they had been holding. “We conducted a tactical operation and took control of Mor dinle, Bula Maskin, Faqayle, Bula Bashir. We also killed 20 Al-Shabaab militants,” said Malik.
The victory comes barely three days after Al-Shabaab detonated a truck bomb in Ex-Control area killing 89 people and wounding over 150 others.
