Elders Choose the Replacement of Slain MP
Elders who on Wednesday met in Mogadishu announced that Kassim Ali Nour would replace their representative in the federal parliament who was killed in the Central Hotel suicide bombings last month.
Kassim is the younger brother of late MP Omar Ali Nour (Furdug) who was among the government officials killed in the last month’s suicide bombings.
This came after the speaker of parliament sent out notices to the concerned elders to come up with replacements for at least 4 murdered MPs.
According to the current political setup in Somalia, tribal elders has the powers to select replacement MPs if any of the lawmakers vacate his position for whatever reason, including death or resignation.
The elders appealed to the parliament authority to accept their pick.
