Elections Underway in Puntland State

GOOBJOOG NEWS | GAROWE: Elections have kicked off in Puntland State with 11 candidates competing for leadership of the oldest federal state of Somalia.
Incumbent President Said Abdullahi Deni is facing fierce competition from experienced politicians who have held various positions both at the federal and regional level.
The region initially planned to hold direct elections but following political differences, authorities announced a return to the traditional Clan-based system where the 66 regional MPs will choose the leader and deputy.
Security has been beefed up in all parts of the region.
