FGS summons Galmudug elders to Dhusamareeb amid fears of poll rigging

Storyline:National News

The Ministry of Interior has summoned elders who will be nominating Galmudug MPs to Dhusamareeb amid fears the Federal Government is planning to rig the upcoming poll.

Goobjoog News can authoritatively reveal that the elders who live outside Dhusamareeb have been trooping to the town in the last two days. The number of those who have arrived so far could not be immediately established.

Sources have intimated to Goobjoog News the Federal Government is not taking chances in ensuring it installs its preferred candidate in the much-awaited poll which was to take place in July. Following the loss in Jubbaland and Puntland, a source privy to the development said, the Federal Government is sealing all loopholes to ensure it clinches Galmudug.

The development comes amid tussles over the composition of the technical committee tasked with overseeing the preparations for the poll. Galmudug president Ahmed Haaf announced early this month an 11 member technical committee. However, some of the presidential candidates and the Alhusuna wal Jamaa faction of the government cried foul noting some of those in the list are civil servants.

Alhusuna released its version of the team Tuesday as the FGS approved team appointed by Haaf landed in Dhusamareeb today.

The Federal Government said it would not recognize the election of Jubbaland MPS and President Ahmed Madobe over what it termed a flawed process. According to the FGS, the elders who participated in the Jubbaland polls were not in the list of the Ministry of Interior.

The date for Galmudug elections has not yet been announced.
