GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: International Airlines operating in Somalia will be required to provide information about their passengers in advance, the Immigration Department has said.

The Department said in a statement Tuesday that the airlines must provide Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) effective from March 31.

The agency noted that the directive was in line with the Immigration Act No. 9 of 1966 and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolutions 2178 and 2396, aimed at enhancing border security and countering threats such as terrorism and transnational crime.

The directive comes barely three days after the U.S embassy in Mogadishu warned on imminent attacks by A-Shabaab in several areas including Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu.
