Foreign Ministry Reshuffles Directors Across Key Diplomatic Departments
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has completed the formal handover of responsibilities and official files to newly appointed directors overseeing five key departments.
The changes affect directorates responsible for Somalia’s relations with Asia and Africa, international cooperation, policy and research, and engagement with international organisations.
Huda Nuur Sheikh Haamud has taken over the Asia Affairs Directorate from Said Mire, while Mohamed Mahmud Ali has assumed responsibility for Africa Affairs, replacing Abdulkadir Burgal.
Saalah Maalin Abuukar has taken charge of the International Cooperation Directorate, taking over from Jibril Afyare. Afyare has subsequently moved to lead the Policy, Planning and Research Directorate, replacing Mohamed Mahmud Colad.
Usman Ahmed Mohamed has also assumed responsibility for the International Organizations Directorate, taking over from Abdinassir Ibrahim Haji Usman, who had been serving in an acting capacity.
The formal transfer of departmental files and responsibilities allows the new directors to begin their duties while maintaining continuity in the ministry’s operations.
The changes come as Somalia seeks to strengthen its diplomatic engagement with regional and international partners and expand cooperation in political, economic and development affairs.
The affected departments are central to that effort, particularly as Somalia deepens relations with African and Asian countries, works with international organisations and seeks to attract greater international cooperation.
The appointment of new directors also places renewed emphasis on policy planning and research, which supports the ministry’s formulation of foreign-policy priorities and long-term diplomatic strategy.
The ministry did not give reasons for the changes or announce specific priorities for the newly appointed directors, but the completion of the handover marks the formal beginning of their responsibilities.
