Galmudug Speaker Calls for Stronger Media Development, Praises Somali Media Council

GOOBJOOG NEWS | DHUUSAMAREEB: Galmudug State Parliament Speaker Dr. Mohamed Nur Ga’al has commended the Somali Media Council for its ongoing efforts to support and enhance Somalia’s media sector.
Speaking at his residence in Dhuusamareeb on Monday evening, Dr. Ga’al emphasized the need for journalists, especially those in Galmudug to improve their skills, understand their rights, and uphold ethical journalism.
He also called for the Somali Media Council to establish a presence in Galmudug to actively contribute to building the capacity of local journalists, fostering a stronger relationship between the media and the government.
The meeting focused on strengthening media development and capacity-building initiatives.
Attendees included Somali Media Council representatives Hinda Jama, Head of Training, and Abdiqani Abdullahi, Senior Advisor to the Council, who were in Dhuusamareeb for official business.
Hassan Abdirahman, Director of the Training Department at the Galmudug Ministry of Information, expressed gratitude for the Council’s training programs, highlighting a recently concluded three-day workshop that provided valuable skills to journalists across the region.
In response, Hinda Jama and Abdiqani Abdullahi reiterated the Council’s commitment to supporting Somali journalists, outlining their efforts to enhance media skills and development while strengthening ties between journalists and the state government.
The Somali Media Council continues to play a pivotal role in improving journalism standards in Somalia, raising awareness among journalists about their rights and responsibilities, and promoting ethical reporting across the country.
