Health Minister Chairs Key Sessions at WHO Regional Meeting in Cairo
GOOBJOOG NEWS | CAIRO: Somalia’s Minister of Health and Human Services, Dr. Ali Haji Adam Abubakar, has chaired key sessions of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) 73rd Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, as regional health leaders gather in Cairo to discuss public health priorities and strengthen cooperation.
The meeting brings together representatives from 22 countries and territories across the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region to review pressing health challenges, assess progress and discuss strategies to improve healthcare delivery.
The Somali Ministry of Health said the minister’s role in chairing the sessions reflects Somalia’s engagement in regional health discussions and its efforts to strengthen cooperation with international health institutions.
Discussions at the regional meeting come as countries across the Eastern Mediterranean face complex health challenges, including infectious disease outbreaks, limited access to essential services, conflict-related emergencies and population displacement.
For Somalia, regional cooperation remains important as authorities work to strengthen the national health system, improve disease surveillance and expand access to essential healthcare services.
The meeting also provides a platform for participating countries to share experiences, coordinate responses to cross-border health threats and explore approaches to improving healthcare systems and emergency preparedness.
Somalia continues to work with international partners, including WHO, to strengthen public health institutions, improve healthcare delivery and build capacity to respond to disease outbreaks and other health emergencies.
The minister’s participation places Somalia’s health priorities within wider regional discussions on disease prevention, emergency response and access to essential medical services.
