House Finance Committee Directs Governments to Pay Salaries
Parliament finance committee has written to the finance ministry directing to pay salaries for the civil servants and armed forces with immediate effect.
Chairman MP Saman Mohamed Sheik Dahir has told Goobjoog that their decision is in line with the suggestion done by the Auditor General who found that there is enough money to pay the salaries in the government coffers.
Civil servants and armed forces were going without salaries for three months now, prompting some security lapses as some soldiers withdrew frontline defenses.
The chairman confirmed that there are some 31 million dollar cash in the government coffers and that is enough to pay the salaries for March, April and May.
“Failing to pay salaries will jeopardize the stability in the country, so government should go for all options” said MP Saman.
President Hassan Sheik has admitted budget deficit in an address to the nation before he departed for 25th African Union heads of states summit in Johannesburg.
