Hundreds throng Hargeisa streets in support of UK Parliament’s debate on Somaliland recognition
Goobjoog News/Hargeisa: Huge rallies are currently underway in Hargeisa, the capital city of Somaliland in support of the British parliament’s debate on Somaliland recognition.
Thousands of peaceful demonstrators, including school children, have thronged the streets of Hargeisa this morning waving Somaliland and UK flags while calling for Hargeisa’s independence which they said is long overdue.
Gavin Williamson, the British lawmaker who introduced the motion for debate in the halls of the UK Parliament, has been hailed for his steadfastness in seeking recognition for the state that has been fighting for independence for the last three decades.
Among the demonstrators in Hargeisa were Hargeisa’s Vice President Abdirahman Abdullahi Seyli, Ministers, Lawmakers and other government officials.
Over the past three decades Somaliland has excelled in matters of peace and elections. These developments have earned it special attention and praise from foreign governments and policymakers. But despite all these, they have not won diplomatic recognition so far.
