Somalia’s Information Minister Hosts ATMIS Head in Mogadishu to Discuss Security Matters
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia’s Information, Culture and Tourism minister Daud Aweis Jama Sunday held talks with African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) head Souef Mohamed El-Amine in Mogadishu.
The two officials discussed the measures put in place by the federal government as it prepares to fully take over security responsibilities from ATMIS forces who are exiting the country by the end of the year.
“We reviewed the Somali Federal Government’s initiatives to assume control over areas currently being vacated by ATMIS troops,” minister Jama said.
The two officials also discussed significant advancements Somalia has made in various areas, including politics, security, and the fight against the Al Shabaab militants.
Minister Jama shared the government’s plans, including the implementation of universal suffrage (One Person, One Vote), and highlighted the successful endorsement of key laws by the Federal Parliament that aim to achieve this historic milestone in Somalia.
On his part, ambassador Souef praised the progress Somalia has made in state-building and reaffirmed the African Union’s steadfast support for our nation’s development efforts.
