Lafta-Gareen forms probe committee over Las’anod evictions
GOOBJOOG NEWS|BAIDOA: South West President Abdi Aziz Laftagareen has appointed an interim committee composed of five officials headed by the Interior, Mohamed Abukar Abdi to mobilise rescue and resettlement of its residents who were forcefully excited from Somaliland. South West said it was angered with the way the evictees were treated and robbed of their rights in Somaliland and therefore opted to form a commission which would look into the affairs of its people. The commission is expected to trace the assets of people displaced from Las Anod, as the evictees said their businesses were vandalised by authorities in Somaliland in what sources term it as business rivalry. The committee is also tasked with the immediate rescue and resettlement of displaced people, most of them temporarily squatting in Puntland where they had been warmly received following a gruesome journey from Somaliland. Puntland government said Monday it had temporarily resettled about 700 people including women and children.
