Lower House Approves National Revenue Authority Bill

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The House of the People on Wednesday approved legislation establishing a National Revenue Authority, a move aimed at strengthening domestic revenue collection and improving the management of public finances.
The bill was passed after completing three readings in the Lower House, during which lawmakers debated its provisions, raised questions and submitted proposals.
The legislation provides for the establishment of the National Revenue Authority, which is expected to play a central role in administering and collecting government revenues.
Authorities expect the new institution to help increase domestic revenue mobilisation while strengthening transparency and efficiency in the management of public finances.
The measure comes as the Federal Government seeks to expand its domestic revenue base and reduce its reliance on external financial support while strengthening public financial management institutions.
The bill will now proceed through the remaining legislative and constitutional procedures required before it can take effect.
