Former Somali Soldier Sentenced to Death for Killing Civilian in Luuq
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Military Court has sentenced a former soldier to death for the killing of a civilian in Luuq district, Gedo region, in May.
The court found former Somali Army soldier Mahmoud Ahmed Farah, also known as Captain Dhashiike, responsible for the death of Abdiasis Sheikh Hussein, who was killed on 15 May 2026.
According to the case presented by the military prosecution, the two men had a previous dispute and encountered each other at a house in the agricultural area of Luuq.
The prosecution said an argument developed between the two men before Dhashiike shot Hussein with an AK-47.
Hussein died at the scene, according to the court account.
The military prosecution later requested that the case be taken up by the Military Court, with the request approved on 3 September.
After giving both sides time to present their cases, the court handed down the death sentence, describing it as qisas, or retribution under Islamic law, for the killing.
The verdict was announced by Colonel Hassan Ali Nur Shuute, chairman of the First Instance Military Court.
The case highlights the role of Somalia’s military justice system in prosecuting members of the armed forces accused of serious offences, including killings involving civilians.
