Minister for Planning: One man one vote not possible in 2016

The minister for Planning and International Cooperation, Abdirahman Yusuf Aynte has reinforced the government’s position that universal vote will not be viable in 2016.
Speaking to Goobjoog News, the minister noted however the government will inclusively consult with the different sections of the society to find a more agreeable and practical option.
“The process of the election will be decided after deliberative discussions between the legislative arm and the civil society take place,” said the minister.
On 28th July, a press release from Somali Federal Parliament leadership dismissed the feasibility of holding nationwide one vote one man elections in 2016.
Somali Federal Parliament leadership stated the rationale of its decision as lack of proper preparations and technical difficulties, and because of the given time and circumstance it could prove difficult to contemplate holding a general election.

“After long deliberative discussions between the two subcommittees, one from the Somali Federal parliament and the other from Somali executive branch, they together underlined that it would be impossible to hold general election within planned time,” read the statement in part.

The Federal Parliament leadership has instead proposed a national dialogue that is inclusive for all; Federal government, Federal States and civil society that determine when to hold general Election in the country.

“Somali Federal Parliament leadership fully understands that Somali citizens have the rights to fully participate in any decision that is important to the fate and future of the country”

Somali Federal Government is now relieved and does to have to worry to present 2016 election road map which was part of tomorrow conference agenda.
