New Somali Diaspora Humanitarian Platform Launched in London

GOOBJOOG NEWS | LONDON: A new diaspora-led humanitarian platform aimed at strengthening coordination and humanitarian action for Somalia has been launched in London.

The Somali Diaspora Emergency Coordination Hub (SODECH) was officially launched on Wednesday at an event hosted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) UK.

The launch brought together Somali diaspora leaders and humanitarian partners to discuss ways of improving coordination and strengthening the diaspora’s contribution to humanitarian efforts in Somalia.

SODECH is intended to provide a platform through which Somali diaspora networks can coordinate their response to emergencies and work more closely with humanitarian actors supporting communities in Somalia.

The initiative reflects the significant role played by the Somali diaspora in supporting communities and humanitarian responses in the country, including through financial contributions, community networks and professional expertise.

The London launch marks the beginning of the platform’s efforts to bring diaspora-led humanitarian initiatives into closer coordination with organisations working on the ground in Somalia.
