One Killed in Clash amid Political Dispute in Puntland’s Caluula

GOOBJOOG NEWS | CALUULA, Puntland: One person has been killed and another injured in a reported clash in Caluula district of Puntland’s Bari region, amid a political dispute over the administration of the town.

Local sources said the incident was linked to tensions surrounding the district administration.

The person killed was identified as Abdifitaax Omar Ali Mumin, who was reportedly the driver of Caluula district commissioner Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, also known as Xamari.

Another person was injured in the incident, although details about the victim’s condition and where they are receiving treatment remain unclear.

The clash comes amid a dispute within the district administration after 11 members of the Caluula Local Council said they had removed the district commissioner from office.

The Caluula Local Council has 33 members elected during Puntland’s 2023 local council elections. Documents from the Puntland Electoral Commission confirm the council’s composition and the results of the Caluula election.

However, it remains unclear whether the reported removal of the commissioner followed the required legal procedure or received approval from other relevant authorities.

There is also no official account yet identifying those involved in the clash, what triggered the shooting or whether any arrests have been made.

The incident has raised concern among residents as the reported violence comes amid an unresolved political dispute over the district’s administration.

Puntland authorities and security agencies have yet to issue a comprehensive statement detailing the cause of the clash, the casualties or any measures taken against those involved.
