At least 100 Al-shabaab militants killed in joint operation by US and SNA troops

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National army in partnership with its ally the United States have killed over 100 Al-shabab militants in a joint air and ground operation in Gal-Libah and El-Qurac at the border of Galgaduud and Middle Shabelle regions.

The intelligence based operation targeted an area where the terrorist were gathered where top leaders of the militant organization who were present at the location were also among those eliminated in the strike.

According to a statement released by the Information Ministry late Wednesday, the strike also destroyed a base where the militants were plotting attacks on civilians and government officials, including security forces.

The statement added that local residents were instrumental in providing crucial information that aided the National Army’s operation.

The Federal Government of Somalia expressed its appreciation for the assistance provided by the United States in helping to destroy the gathering of al-Shabaab terrorists.

The Somali National Army continues to search for remnants of the militants who may have escaped the attack.

The latest operation is part of the continued war on the Al-shabaab militants which includes recent ones in Budbud and Weel-Maarow where more than 70 al-Shabaab members were killed.

The government, with the help of the public and international partners, remains committed to eradicating al-Shabaab and other terrorist groups.
