Over 200 Al-shabaab militants killed in a week, Defense ministry official says

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army has killed more than 200 Al-shabaab militants over the past week, Ministry of Defense spokesperson General Abdullahi Ali Aanood has said.

General Anood further said the national army backed by regional forces and its international partners killed 30 militants, including two top Al-shabaab militants in an operation at El- qorac early Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference in Mogadishu, the Spokesman said the operation against the militants was carried out in several regions across the country including Galcad and Budbud areas of the Middle Shabelle region.

Operations have also been conducted in the Hobyo rural area of Mudug region and the forest under Welmarow village in Lower Juba.

These recent operations have significantly weakened al-Shabaab’s capabilities and underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to continuing the fight against al-Shabaab and liberate all parts of Somalia.
