Over 200 journalists risk losing their jobs in kenya
Kenya Union of Journalists has condemned Communications Authority of Kenya’s move to switch off stations broadcasting on analogue platform saying it is a major threat to journalists.
The union stated that over 200 journalists have been momentarily rendered redundant not because of mass lay-off by their employers but because of a callous and inconsiderate action by the Communications Authority of Kenya to switch off stations broadcasting on the analogue platform.
KUJ expressed its disappointment with the Communication Authority for protecting the interests of foreign firms at the expense of local stations, which are mass employers of talented journalists.
“ KUJ appeals to all relevant stakeholders to quickly meet and chart a way out of the current legal maze and mess, to pave way for our journalists to resume duty. We are not ready to play the proverbial suffering grass that shoulders the weight of prized bulls, as they engage in business turf wars. “read part of the statement.
