Over 80 thousand civilians displaced from Las’anod

The fight between Somaliland and opposition forces combating Somaliland’s presence in the areas of Sool and Sanaag is ongoing for the third consecutive day. Witnesses say that heavy weapons are being used. The majority of the fighting is taking place on the outskirts of Las-Aanood.

The war has affected the city’s health infrastructure and economy. Most of the residents have been displaced from the city.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Somaliland noted that terrorist groups raided Somaliland Army camps on the third day while the troops were on their defensive scenes.

Somaliland repeatedly says they were attacked by terror groups, an accusation denied by the traditional elders of the Sool region.

Yesterday, the Somali government called on both sides to stop the war and settle the differences through dialogue.

The UN says that around 80,000 civilians have been forced to leave their homes and that dozens of people have been killed.

According to media reports over the last two days, about 24 people were killed and 50 others wounded since the flare-up of the battle in Las’anod.
