GOOBJOOG NEWS | NEWS|MOGADISHU: Voter registration has commenced in six more additional districts in Banaadir region as thousands of city residents turn up to register in the crucial exercise.
Eligible voters turned up in Howlwadaag, Warta Nabada, Yaqshid, Hodan, Heliwaa, and Karaan districts Saturday morning to be registered ahead of the local council elections slated for June.
Voter registration kicked off last week in what has been described as historic milestone towards representative democracy in Somalia. The Horn of Africa nation is planning to hold nationwide one-person-one-vote elections, the first in 56 years.
The Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (INEBC) aims to finalise the registration exercise in all the 18 districts in Banaadir region, which encompasses the capital Mogadishu, before rolling out in other parts of the country.
