PM Barre Appoints Committee to Plan Funeral for Ex-Speaker Prof. Jawari

GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre appointed a team of ministers and other government officials to oversee the preparations for a state funeral of the former Speaker of Somalia, Prof. Mohamed Osman Jawari who passed away yesterday in Mogadishu.

The 12-member committee will be chaired by Agriculture Minister Abdi Maareye.

The committee committee comprises the following members.

1. Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation; Mr. Mohamed Abdi Hayir Maareye. – Chairman
2. Minister of Internal Security, Mr. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag – Member
3. Minister of Animal Husbandry, Mr. Hassan Hussein Mohamed Elaay – Member
4. Minister of Investment Planning and Economic Development, Mr. Mohamud Sheikh Abdirahman Beenebeene – Member
5. Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Mohamed Barre Mohamud – Member
6. State Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Hirsi Jama Gani – Member
7. Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Abdirahman Sheikh Yusuf Al-Adala – Member
8. Police Commissioner – General Sulub Ahmed Firin – Member
9. Commander of the Custodial Corps – General Mahad Abdirahman Adan – Member
10. Auditor of the People’s Assembly, Mr. Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan Nuh – Member
11. Deputy Chairman of Security and Politics of Banadir Region, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Diriye (Yabooh) – Member.
12. Chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency (SodMA), Mr. Mohamud Macallin Abdulle.

Professor Jawari was elected Speaker of Parliament in 2012 and subsequently as Speaker of the House of the People in 2017 following the adoption of a bicameral system of government. He however resigned the following year following pressure from President Mohamed Farmaajo’s administration.
