GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has appointed Osman Mohamed Abdi, known as Osman Daallo, as deputy minister of Commerce and Industry, replacing MP Mahmoud Abdullahi Ahmed (Abuukaate), who recently resigned from the post.

The appointment fills the vacancy at the ministry following Abuukaate’s departure, which reports attributed to a prolonged disagreement with the minister of Commerce and Industry.

The government did not provide details of the reported dispute.

Prime Minister Hamza urged Osman to carry out his new responsibilities with professionalism and dedication, particularly in serving the Somali public.

The appointment brings new leadership to the ministry at a time when the government is seeking to strengthen Somalia’s productive sectors, expand domestic trade and encourage industrial development.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry plays a central role in developing business policy, supporting private-sector growth and improving the environment for investment and manufacturing.

Osman’s immediate responsibilities are expected to include supporting the ministry’s work on trade and industrial development as the government pursues broader efforts to diversify the Somali economy and increase domestic production.
